The relationship between man and dog summed up in one photograph

(MSN) We all know dog is man’s best friend but for Schoep, a 19-year-old pooch in Wisconsin, man is dog’s best friend too. The aging pooch has bad arthritis and every evening his owner, John Unger, takes him into Lake Superior to soothe him, cradling the elderly dog in his arms as he rocks him to sleep. The water is therapeutic for the dog’s aching bones, Unger says. The Wisconsin man rescued Schoep nearly 20 years ago and the two have been together ever since. The touching pic has garnered 2.2 million views and 191,162 likes on the photographer’s Facebook page. Apparently we’re not the only ones moved to tears by the touching display of love.

If this picture doesn’t make your eyes swell up just a bit, you have never owned a dog.  This pup is 19 years old and nearing the end of his days. This absolute beauty of a guy (John Unger) rescued Schoep when he was just 8 months old and has been his longtime companion and best friend ever since.  Schoep suffers from bad arthritis so John takes him down to Lake Superior every night and drifts through the water with him until Schoep can peacefully fall asleep and sooth his aching bones.  If that doesn’t show you what kind of relationship man and dog have, I don’t know what will? Loyalty, obedience, friendship, hapiness and unconditional love are what dogs give to people. A dog will tough it through just about any situation, and  I’m sure Schoep has had more than his fair share of battles. If I got the chance I would shake John Unger’s hand and tell him, that’s how you fucking treat a dog. 100%, A+, golden star goes out to both Unger and Schoep for being this week’s biggest beauties and by bringing grown men everywhere to tears. Bravo you two, bravo.
